Privacy Policy
At Cannock Chase Council, we take your privacy seriously and will only keep and use your
personal information for reasons that the law requires or allows. Cannock Chase is the data
controller for the personal information we hold about you in relation to the Cannock Chase
Can mobile app.
Why are we collecting your personal data?
The purpose of the data processing will ensure the features within the mobile app are tailored to the individual users’ needs and requirements. For example, gender, weight, and
year of birth is to enable the application to allow the user to set their weight goals. The data is then used to show the user their individual progress across the various areas of the wellness wheel and promote relevant challenges within the application. The data will be used by the Council to identify the impact of the application on the District’s local obesity and wider health levels; and show where there has been a reduction or increase.
It will also help determine the overall success and value of the Cannock Chase Can programme.
The Council will be able to use the data to potentially target and further assist certain
postcode areas and/or certain groups (e.g. age and/or gender). The Council will also use this data for marketing purposes in the form of digital notifications. Users of the app will be sent personalised notifications based on their progress within the app. This could include updating progress on their Wellness Wheel and challenge updates and reminders.
Users will have a choice whether they wish to receive these notifications and can opt to
‘turn off’ notifications using the system preferences on their device.
What information do we collect?
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us during the registration
stage of the app.
The personal information we collect will include the following:
- User details: username, IP address, postcode, telephone number, email address,
year of birth, gender, body weight, height, and lifestyle options.
User activity data will also be logged throughout the usage of the application. These metrics
will be stored against the ID of the user and will be used to show the user their progress
across the following metrics:
- Weight change
- Challenge started
- Challenge completed
- Challenge aborted
- Challenge progress recorded
- Activity group score was updated
- Wellness Wheel score was updated
- Note, the usage of this reporting data will be anonymised from any personally identifiable
- information.
Do we collect information from under 18’s?
We do not knowingly collect data from or promote to children under 18 years of age.
How will your information be stored?
The nature of the processing will consist of the Council collecting user data when people download and register with the mobile app as shown below:
- Data will initially be entered into a user’s mobile device by the user.
- This will be sent via TLS Encryption to the API, hosted by AWS.
- The API will then send the data via TLS Encryption to the database.
The database will be an AWS RDS database. Your personal data is stored within the UK only
Data Security
All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.
A Creative Team will compile and store the data on the Council’s behalf to enable them to
complete their contractual obligations and provide a suitable application for end users as
part of the Cannock Chase Can programme. They are classed as data processors for the
purposes of current data protection legislation.
Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features
to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an
unauthorised way.
We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will
notify you and any applicable regulator when we are legally required to do.
Will your information be shared with anyone?
Your information may be shared with other departments within the Council for reporting
purposes and to develop initiatives that target particular postcode areas of the District. This
is outlined in the ‘Why are we collecting your data’ section. Note, the usage of this reporting data will be anonymised from the personally identifiable information.
Your personal data will not be shared with any other third parties.
How long de we keep your information?
Your information will be stored for the duration of the Cannock Chase Can programme, up
to a maximum of 5 years.

How do we handle your social logins?
If you choose to register or log in to the Cannock Chase Can mobile app using a social media
account, we will have access to certain information about you.
The mobile app offers you the ability to register and login using your third-party social
media account details (like your Facebook or Twitter logins). Where you choose to do this,
we will receive certain profile information about you from your social media provider. When
a user chooses to login using social media, the information collected will include their first
and last name and their email address.
We will use the information we receive only for the purposes that are described in this privacy notice. Please note that we do not control, and are not responsible for, other uses of your personal information by your third-party social media provider. We recommend that you review their privacy notice to understand how they collect, use and share your personal information, and how you can set your privacy preferences on their sites and apps.
Changes to the privacy policy and your duty to inform us of changes
We keep our privacy policy under regular review.
This version was last updated on 1st July 2025. It may change and if it does, these changes
will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you when you next use the
App. The new policy may be displayed on-screen and you may be required to read and
accept the changes to continue your use of the App.
It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. Please
keep us informed if your personal data changes during our relationship with you.

The App contains links to and from websites of our partner networks, advertisers and affiliates. Please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or services. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use these services.
What are you rights?
We comply fully with the principles of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), ensuring that your personal data is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently. This means we only collect data for specified, explicit purposes, and we make sure it is accurate, relevant, and kept no longer than necessary. Your data is held securely, and we are committed to safeguarding your privacy and always upholding your rights. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, or restrict how your data is used, and we are happy to support you in exercising these rights.
Data protection law provides you with certain rights, however not all these rights will be available to you in all situations, particularly where we process your information as part of one of our statutory duties. Where we are under a legal duty to use data for a particular purpose, you will not have the right to prevent it being used in that way.
For the purposes of the Cannock Chase Can mobile application, you will have the right to withdraw your consent to use of your data at any time throughout the process of using the App. You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time. This can be done via the ‘delete account button’ within the App.
