Treasured Times: Combatting Loneliness and Isolation in Cannock Chase
Loneliness and isolation remain significant challenges in Cannock Chase, where Census 2021 data reveals that 28.9% of households are single-person households, including 5,456 residents aged 66 and over. Many older residents face poor health and provide extensive unpaid care, further deepening their isolation. With 12.6% of households classed as ‘lone pensioner households,’ addressing social isolation is critical.
The “Treasured Times” project, funded by the National Lottery’s “Know Your Neighbourhood” initiative, aims to tackle these issues. In collaboration with Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, a series of short films showcases local activities that help to show what’s happening in the community. These films highlight how community groups can break down barriers to participation and improve well-being.
In addition to the films, the project has compiled “Treasured Times” folders, filled with information on local arts, physical activities, and community groups, which are being distributed at key locations across the district.
“Treasured Times” is also going on tour across Cannock Chase, engaging directly with community groups, housing sectors, and local organisations who support people experiencing loneliness and isolation. If you’d like the team to speak to your group or organisation, please get in touch. The project team is eager to connect with local residents and provide information about the many opportunities available to reduce isolation.
